Hey everyone! I am about to take my DAT and I was just wondering if they allow you time before you begin the test to write down notes?? I know you can during your fifteen minute break, but I wasn't sure about before the actual test. Plus, do they give you two laminated sheets with a marker? Thank you!

There is a tutorial before the test that you have time to write stuff down, you technically aren't supposed to but I'm sure most people did anyway.

Yes, they do, you raise your hand or go up to the person to swap them out.

My proctor came in and told me to stop writing during the tutorial. She took the ones I was writing on and gave me new ones.

If you're wondering about how the sheets look like, they are graph-ruled and are blue in color. If you have sweaty hands, you can wipe everything you write off very easily (could be good and bad).
My testing condition was extremely cold, but I was sweating enough to erase everything my hand went over.

I personally ended up using the front and 1/2 of the back side of 1 sheet. I didn't need the 2nd sheet at all.

The markers were awful for me. They were too thick and prevented me from really utilizing the paper. Maybe this is why I didn't use much of the sheets.

Seriously, we should not be penalized by having to use crappy markers/laminated sheets. It eats into our time when we can't get the pen to write or have to switch out pages. Why can't we have erasable boards and good markers?!

yeah its ridiculous...

when i wrote on the sheets, the writing turned into tiny droplets and became hard to read. it was really hard to keep track of my work.
while i was doing the hole punching grids, the side of my hand kept smearing everything.. I'm sure i lost at least 20-30 seconds on that section alone.

I got 2 laminated sheets and 2 markers. One marker was eh, but the other one was brand new and worked fine. I'm sure you can ask for a new marker during that tutorial period if you raise your hand.

My only complaint was that my proctor wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. I needed to swap out my paper, and I kept raising my hand, but no response. I was literally taking the test with one hand in the air. Luckily, 5-10 minutes after, a new student was being seated so I managed to get the proctor's attention. But it really didn't matter because I just spit on the paper and wiped the ink off with my shirt (filth, I know).

Lol wut? I took my DAT already but I thought that you SHOULD/allowed to use the tutorial to take notes and write stuff.

If you read the rules, you're technically not allowed to but it depends on the proctor.
