So I'm pretty fresh and new to SDN, but Ive been reading alot of threads and have a general idea of how things work here, nice to be apart of it!
However I need help with my current situation as a pre med...
I am currently in the beginning of my sophomore year, and I am a Biochemistry major. In my freshman year I made a very premature decision in taking My Gen Chem's, Bio's, And Cal's at the same time, forcing me to achieve more B's then A's....
Right now I'm beginning to get into volunteering and hopefully research very soon...
I just wanted to know what direction do you all think I should go in now? my gpa as of currently is a 3.4 and I'm not all too sure what my science gpa is, but I think something like a 3.2..
I am also a Texas resident at the University of Houston.
I even considered changing my major to Economics, mainly because I felt that Biochem was a dime a dozen major for Med school apps. If not please prove me wrong.
Help needed!!!

I'm not really sure what you're asking for help with. Your GPA is fine for being done with one year of college. You have plenty of time to bring it up. The fact that you are a biochem major will give you plenty of chances to bring your science gpa up.

I don't think you made a "premature decision." Given that you're looking into studying bioscience, I'm not really sure what could be a more basic class for you to start off with than your gen chems and biology classes. Just accept that college is hard, and put that much more effort into it.

And don't worry about your major. The major theoretically doesn't matter anyway. What's going to matter is your extracurricular activities, and I can tell you that you're probably going to have a much easier time getting slotted into a research lab and getting a publication as a biochem major than as an economics major.

If you were posting this at the end of your sophomore year, you might have a little more reason to worry, but only a little. Just buckle down and treat college like college, and you'll be fine.

taking intro chem, bio, and calc as a freshman isn't uncommon. and don't change your major just for the sake of looking better for med school.
