So I will be starting pharmacy school this August. I wanted to get a job this summer in retail/hospital. The problem is right now I have so many options of what I should do this summer.

(1) If I want a summer job and I am an accepted pharmacy student, when should I start applying for intern positions? ie. NOW or later in May? I also plan to take 3 weeks of vacation to travel, so how will that work out in hiring me? Or does that not. It just takes such a long time for them to get back to you and people might already be vying for these spots now.

(2) And which retail stores should I apply to? Target/CVS/Walgreens/Grocery Stores? Does it even matter? I just want to have a positive experience in wherever I work and stay committed to that company. Or does that not even matter.

Note: I want to eventually do a residency after pharmacy school, but I don't know if hospitals would hire someone short term. Whereas, if I started a retail gig now I could possibility transfer to a different location.

Apply now for the summer/fall. This is a good time to get into the system. P3s/P4s will be leaving for pharmacist jobs or rotations. In some states, you'll be considered an intern now.

For hospital you should apply now or ASAP after school begins. For retail, anytime, but there will be more selection available up through the first month or two of classes.

Personally, I like grocery chains better than Wags/CVS. I like to do my shopping after work, and there is always an opportunity to buy lunch at work. Plus, I just feel less shut in being able to see out into the store. Weird psychological thing, I guess.

You can apply right now but you can't start working until you obtain an intern license which requires current enrollment in a pharmacy program.

I would recommend applying now before intern positions start filling up. Some people in my class had to go to places they didn't necessarily want to go to to get internships. I landed an internship in June before school even started and started working full-time. It's in a convenient location and a great internship ("teaching hospital"). The early bird gets the worm!

But keep in mind that if you aren't currently an official intern and don't have the credentials then they will essentially put you at the bottom of the list.

I suppose I took advantage of a rather unique situation.

Apply now! Take no vacation if u wanna work.

U have no choice here...they'll pick u, not u pick them....consider u're lucky if u land a job

residency for a job? bad idea...even if u have residency, u will most likely not get a job if u have no connection....

I really don't like the way you use "U" in sentences. I find it really annoying.

Would you mind sharing where you went to school RxForLife? I've only ever seen you post highly negative comments, and it makes me curious what your area is.
