Hey does anyone out there know about a fellowship in behavioral medicine after your peds resdiency? And if so where these fellowships are and what the training entails and how one practices after they are done?

I'm really interested in learning more about this too. Anyone have any information?

i am also interested in this.

I can't really tell you much at this point but I do plan on starting a fellowship in Developmental/Behavior this coming August. It would seem though that it's extremely integrative in its approach. Why is this 15 mo not yet walking? Is it an orthopedic, neurologic, genetic, or metabolic etiology? Along with evaluating the developmental delays we also handle aspects of behavior... ADHD, autism/PDD, Aspergers, Rhetts to name a few....

I enjoyed it tremendously as a first year rotation in residency.. seeing the theraputic approaches done as a team effort between the various therapists and doctors.... watching the psychosocial aspects of the child and his/her close family improve as the ADHD is controlled.

I would be happy to answer more questions for you but would probably be a much better person to ask in ther latter part of the year... 😳

there are listing of all pediatrics fellowship positions each year in january in one of the pediatric journals (I forgot the name). Go to your library to check it out. 😎

thanks so much for the info Bernardo_11. Sorry it took me so long to thank you, I haven't been on SDN in a while. If you think about it in a few months, I know the three of of who posted here about the fellowship would be very interested in hearing how it is going.

I am sure you are very busy, but if you have time, could you possibly reply with some information on how you arrived at this specialty? I've looked around on the internet and there are not a lot of fellowship programs out there. Was it very difficult to get a spot? What sorts of things did you do as a resident/medical student to prepare you for the fellowship? Any advice?

Thanks so much, and good luck 🙂

I never really knew this specialty existed until my intern year. It's a required rotation in my residency program. It was a pretty fun rotation and I enjoyed seeing the various therapies done for kids in the community. I decided to apply for the spot offered in my residency, so I guess the familiarity the PD had with me helped. As far as I know, the fellowship is not all that competitive (except for peds ER and cardiology, most of the fellowships aren't). As for preparation? Nothing really special except maybe to do a rotation in Development/Behavior as an elective/away rotation if your program does not offer it.

here's a website with info. If you go to Frieda you can find out where the programs are located
