Behavioral Science Requirement

Feeling very dumb right now 🙁 I did not realize that many schools require 6 semester hours of behavioral sciences. I just graduated and didn't take any such classes. I assume this will doom me for admission at these schools.

So, can I just list two psychology courses as "planned" on aacomas and hope to take them spring semester a little less than a year from now? Is this OK as long as they're completed before I (hopefully) matriculate?

Or, would an online class count? I could do that now. Totally open to other suggestions as well.

You can totally do them. If you don't have them, they just say you need it before June of the matriculating year. Not sure if online counts. Listing as planned should be fine.

The schools request a final transcript before you start attending. AACOMAS and AMCAS cannot forward your transcripts, so the school you end up attending must request you send a new set.

The "planned" courses need to show up on the final transcripts before matriculation.

As for the on-line issue, you need to call up the schools that you are concerned about and ask each one individually. Sorry I can't help with this one.

Is there anyway to show you plan to take these courses after you have submitted? It won't let me change anything in the colleges and coursework section. Not sure of the best way to approach this so I don't get auto-screened.

Schools will never know if a psychology or sociology course is taught online or in person. For the most part, that information is never noted on transcripts. So taking a course like that online should be no problem.

I could be wrong, but I believe that most schools have it as a recommended course. Of course, I bet this will soon change with the 2015 MCAT change having a section on social science.

Don't sweat it; you can slip into a couple of Psychology and Sociology intro-level courses simultaneously and knock them out in a semester without much trouble. Anthropology too, I suppose, but it tends to spend about half the semester on human evolutionary science, which, while neat, may not be as relevant to you as the other two.

I think Economics counts too. If it does, also a good one.

Will listing them as "planned" play a role in admissions decisions vs those who have already completed them?

From what I understand, that's not likely. I've heard some school sites say that not having hard sciences completed may result in a delay pending your grade, but I don't believe that's done for behavioral sciences.

So you believe that as long as I list that I plan to take these classes, my admissions chances won't be negatively impacted?
