hey there, i am an IMG, planning my step1 in september. i have never studied behavioral science (we dont have this as a subject). i am here for any advise how to study this subject. i am planning to do biostats and epidemiology from kaplan and rest of the BS from FA. kaplan seems to be preety long. do you think that this would suffices my prepration to tackle BS questions on exam. 😕

thank you in advance for any inputs.......🙂

I am taking the behavioral science shelf soon and most of my prep was from Behavioral Science High Yield book. It seems to have everything. I hear that BRS is good as well but even longer.

You don't have Epi, Psyc, or Ethics? (that's Behavioral Science)

FYI - my ethics questions on my test seemed incredibly easy. Example would be something
"Patient is going to die. What should you say?"
a) "Sorry, but you're a goner"
b) "Yo, time to die"
c) "Ms. Jones, I have something to discuss with you about your condition. It seems that after looking at your results......"
d) "Looks like you gotta get your things in order"
e) "Do you have anyone to leave all your money to?"

(seriously, this isn't an april fools thing)

maybe it was just making up for the heavy immuno (way more than i expected) on my test.

I just used BRS for BS shelf and did quite well. 100% recommended and only takes about a day to read. 👍

we have community medicine which has a different concept than behavioral science. chapters like biostats and epidemiology remain same but then other chapters are lot different.

I'm finishing up the Kaplan Beh Sci today. Very lengthy, took me about 3 days to finish but I only read for 2-3hrs per day. Kind of a lot to absorb, I think HY might be a better bet.

But if he's never learned behavioral, I think you get far more out of the videos with someone explaining things to you than reading a 100pg book (imo).

I like that Kaplan guy for Behavioral. Some stuff is very low yield and would probably never be tested (when he starts talking stats for certain diseases, etc; it's more important to just sort of listen to it).

so do you think listening to kaplan BS and then doing HY be a better bet??

Hi, I am an IMG too and in 4th yr of M,B;B,S. I am listening to Kaplan BS lec and planning to buy one book out of BRS and HY but can't make up my mind. I ll' be taking step1 in 2yrs time after my graduation but just for the fact our school do not offer behavioural sciences I want to go through it now.
Can anyone help me decide between BRS and HY.

it is easy subject out of all med courses, well that is what i think..brs is more then enough even though you havent studied you will be fine, and make sure you do questions at the end of brs behavioral science book
