I was diagnosed being mildly color blinde mostly with my greens/reds. It was a shocker to me because it was the first time i found out in my 24 years ever. It happened when i coundnt see some shades in histo and went to go get a routine eye exam. My question to all u eye docs out there, does this become worse, do i start seeing less and less colors, do u think it will effect my studies if i go to medical school or dental school or optometry school, do u know of anyone in medical fields or medical programs with the same problem.
Any advice and info would be appreciated greatly.

Assuming it is not caused by any weird optic nerve disease (which usually has other signs) then it will not get worse.

It should not affect your career, but you may not make a very good pathologist. Any other specialty should be fine.

You could still do pathology if you wanted to. I've talked to someone on SDN (vr4nut) who has a colorblind uncle who is a pathologist. I'm colorblind too, so I had this concern a while back. OP, do a search, and look through the archives, or you can check one of the previous threads that I started about colorblind issues.

That is funny you should ask this, as I just learned about it last week in one of my optometry school classes. THe professor told us that there are special filters they give to students who are color blind so that they can detect certain diseases that they otherwise would not be able to see. So apparently there are some color blind students who are able to use filters and become successful optometrists. Hope this helps!
