Hey All!! So due to a family emergency, I won't be able to apply to
d-school this cycle. However, I will apply next cycle for 2011 entering class...I do have a question, for the mean time I will have to put my undergrad degree to good use...and teach h.s. bio. Since, being a bio & edu major I took my pre-reqs already/LORs done/p.statement done/ all i have left is to take the DAT's....will d-school frown upon me having taught a year before applying??? Can I conclude that year as part of personal experience?? thanks!!!

You may even benefit from your year of teaching... a lot of schools like students who have experiences that have helped them mature, especially when you're working with the community and developing good interpersonal communication skills.

I think you will be fine waiting a year. When do you plan on taking the DAT, are you going to do it now, or are you going to wait until next year?

Of course they will not frown upon your decision IF you put that one year into good use (i.e. teach, work, volunteer, etc) and it will benefit you tremendously.

I was thinking most likely January or perhaps March. I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking it'll give me more than enough time to prepare myself.

Overall, thanks for the responses guys!!! 🙂 I was just worried that the admissions committee would see it as a drastic career change or what not.
