General Admissions & OTCAS Being waitlisted without an interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What do you guys think about this?
Would I have lower chances of being called in compared to someone who has been waitlisted after an interview?
Can you clarify your post? Is the interview optional?

Interview isn't optional. They typically invite people to interview. When I applied though, I wasn't asked to interview- got a letter very soon after I applied saying I was on the waiting list.

Can you tell me what program you applying to?

My initial impression is the school is using the waitlist as "applicant purgatory", where no one is rejected initially and everyone who does not receive an acceptance is placed on said waitlist....sorry, that's probably not the answer you wanted to hear. IF the interview is not optional, part of the application process to be accepted and the program omitted you from that particular step; yes I would be concerned.

Your best bet to see where you stand with the program would be to call the admissions office and ask if the cohort has been filled, what the reply due date is, and if they rank the waitlist and what position you are?

Best of luck.

I applied to Creighton.
I've seen people on here say they got a rejection letter from them, though.
However, I feel like it may be some sort of sympathy waitlist. My father went there and I feel like maybe I would have received a flat out rejection if he hadn't. Like- they're trying to soften the blow by waitlisting me instead of rejecting me.

At least from what I know it usually takes more than 1 generation to be a legacy at a school, so I don't think your getting any special treatment.

Not judging just running through scenarios bc I don't know any of the individuals who were flat out rejected. But it's possible they did not meet a minimum requirement and applied anyway (gpa, gre, etc.), their application was incomplete, application was submitted after the deadline, spelling or grammar errors in statment or application, you get the point.

There's always hope, until you get that thin envelope that always starts with "thank you for your application, however we regret to inform you...."
