BAILEY and Love is a surgical text written in the UK. It is not widely used in the United States and is certainly more detailed than what students would need.

Whether it's too much for you depends on your goals but no one is expected to read sich a textbook in three months.

What about lawrance ? I just need a book that going to help me when my rotation start

As long as you don't get bogged down with detailed reading and miss the hands on points of the rotation.

Don't miss the forest for the trees.

Despite what administrated and education seems to focus on these days, medicine is still about actual patient care and NOT about answering multiple choice questions correctly

Actully I love surgery and I wanna be surgeon... Cuz that I wanna read any book that going to help me in surgery rotation & residency

I thought this was going to be about 1) someone who was pregnant or 2) someone who was overweight being worried about their stomach getting in the way of doing surgery. Disappointed.

I definitely expected #2, and I know of quite a few surgeons that would have that be an issue if it was truly something.

Getting 1/8 of the way through a giant textbook which is 75% beyond your level of training is not going to help you on your surgery rotation.

Bailey is a decent text for surgery. It covers everything from physiology to diagnosis to treatment. However unlike most American textbooks it does not rely on evidence based protocols or standard guidelines. In fact you won't find many guidelines in there. It is a "traditional" text that tends to rely on authors experiences . I don't say that it is a bad text. But it is not advisable to read it in US med schools because you are likely to get answers in CK and shelf exams wrong . Also it is quite lengthy .

Having said that the book has an extraordinarily rich collection of images. It also covers urology , orthopedics and thoracic surgery quite well. In GIT the coverage of intestinal obstruction is superb , Practical guidance of what to do in an operating room is superbly offered. Other noteworthy coverage is that of rectal cancer . APR and LAR is nicely and succinctly covered. If you are truly interested in surgery you can use it for these purposes. However use the books recommended by your profs during the clerkship. And of course seniors. Don't try reading L&B cover to cover as a main text.

if you love surgery u can consider general surgery since they will operate on the "belly" (probably should use more anatomically correct terms around surgeons though)

There was a jolly overweight surgeon who due to his great girth was able to rest his hands on his belly during breaks in the surgery, yet have his hands remain in the sterile "batters box." I always envied how comfortable and pleasant that seemed.
