So Kansas is going to have 3 DO schools????

At some point this is going to lead to a glut of students who will be unable to pass boards, or even worse, unable to find residency slot because all of those slots will be filled.

Look for the newer schools eventually having high attrition rates. Serves the AOA right.
looks like it... seems like a lot for that state.

Louisiana has 1.5 million more people but has only one DO school!
doesn't the university of kansas have 3 campuses as well?

if it starts to look like florida... it's time to run. it continues to shock me that schools keep opening up there with the already crowded environment... not to mention the competition for rotations considering Caribbean schools rotate there too. unbelievable that LMU chooses florida to open their 3rd campus

I have heard that the increased DO schools and students will cause IMG applicants to have a more difficult time matching, but that it won't be more difficult for DO students to match (especially if they apply to primary care specialties). What are your thoughts on that?

Lovely. They can take their place behind LUCOM
I love in one breath they say marginalized populations and then the next breath state gender. Regardless of where someone falls along that line, they are one of the most marginalized populations.

Benedictine School of Osteopathic Medicine received candidate status from COCA on September 20, 2026.

Candidate Status Granted to Proposed Benedictine College School of Osteopathic Medicine

From the news release:

"The proposed Benedictine College School of Osteopathic Medicine (BSOM) has been granted Candidate Status by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, received notification from COCA on Sept. 20, 2026.

“Achieving Candidate Status is a significant milestone for Benedictine College. It reflects the dedication and hard work of many people who have helped bring this vision forward,” said Founding Dean Marla Golden, DO, MS, FACEP. “Our attention now turns to the next major step of achieving Pre-Accreditation Status.”

Candidate Status enables Benedictine College to advance to the next stage of COCA’s accreditation process. The college submitted its Pre-Accreditation Application on September 10, 2026, for consideration in advance of COCA’s December meeting. Benedictine College is also pursuing approval from the Higher Learning Commission, an institutional accreditor recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, for the institutional changes necessary to support the program.

The Candidate Status designation follows several other major milestones, including securing more than $50 million in philanthropic support. The investment reflects strong donor commitment to the BSOM mission and Benedictine College’s vision for establishing a faithfully Catholic osteopathic medical school."

They also state that they have secured 214 clinical training sites to date.
