Benefits and drawbacks to taking a course pass/fail

I was wondering if people had taken courses pass/ fail in thier ph.d program? What are the drawbacks?

I'm considering doing so for my advanced level stats class....

I think it depends on your school and your future aspirations.

If you want a research or academic career, taking an advanced stats course p/nc is probably not a smart move. Otherwise, it may not matter.

I have taken a few classes (rorchacht class, MI class) pass/no credit - because I wanted to learn the different techniques but they were not included in my program of studies.
