Hi,

Will working as a CNA (certified nurse assistant) in a short term acute care facility be beneficial in the application process for DPT programs?

Thank you.

If you can connect why your CNA experience lead you to PT, it could make an interesting story. If I was an adcom, I'd also like to know why you did not climb the ladder to LVN, RN, DNP, etc.

I think any experience in health care can be beneficial. Will CNA work give you an "edge?" That's questionable and depends on the DPT program you are applying to. Depending on your facility, you may have the opportunity to observe PT in the acute care setting, which is desirable and is required by some schools. Does your facility have PTs on staff? You should talk to them and try to build relationships.

As @Azimuthal mentioned, you might have to justify why you are working as a CNA (vs. a PT aide or rehab tech).
