What are the benefits of completing multiple fellowships after completing family medicine residency? For example, after finishing my residency, I decide to do 1-2 years of sports medicine and then afterwords I decide to do pain medicine, and after that I begin practicing? Pros and Cons please, yes including salary.

The benefits are that you will have more experience in those areas. Otherwise, not much, other than 2-3 years of lost attending salary (essentially equivalent to a high end student loan burden).

Well, you might be qualified to apply to twice the number of jobs, so if you are looking at a supersaturated market, this could be helpful.

I don't get why so many start threads and leave out their own thoughts. I feel that no one can adequately help you unless you tell us why you are thinking about this and what's holding you back. With that info, you can get answers that directly address your areas of interest/concern.

First and foremost I felt that doing so would make me the most qualified family practitioner that I could possibly be. I figured why limit myself. Figured Id be able to do more in my practice this way too.

I think 1 fellowship is great. It gives you the chance to become an "expert" in one area. The more you focus on it, the more well known you are in that field.

2 fellowships may allow you more freedom into different jobs. On the other hand: If I needed an interventional pain procedure, I would want a doctor dedicating himself to that arena. I would not want someone that just dabbles in it, unless I'm in a very rural area without options. Financially, the 2nd fellowship doesn't add anything and may just waste money you could have earned by skipping it.
