Hey, so my university has its own system where they can actually store your LORs for you once you get them from your profs, and then I believe they will send them out to your schools when you need them to. If I'm not mistaken, this is basically the same thing that Interfolio does, and since it's at my school, I figured it would be a lot more convenient than Interfolio. However, is there a reason I should use Interfolio instead? Is there some sort of added benefit to using Interfolio (e.g. it's more "official", more convenient for med schools, they do something extra, etc.). Thanks!

Well one thing to think about is the cost. Interfolio is $4 per electronic mailing and $5 per surface mailing. And also a $15 year subscription. This isn't bad, but maybe your school's system pays for the mailing, in which case you can save a few bucks.

What I really like about interfolio is that they are very efficient. Frankly, I wouldn't trust my school to send all my LORs out in a timely fashion...our premed advisors are pretty bad. But if you're school is promising to compile/mail LORs promptly then go for it.

In the whole process of applying Interfolio costs very little, and if you don't mind paying it's probably the way to go. I like being in control of my letters and being able to easily choose which letters to send to which schools. You should find out if your school sends out letters whenever you ask, or only in one big mailing, because the last thing you want is to have your secondaries in but not be marked complete because your LORs aren't in.

Hi I was wondering if the school doesn't participate in interfolio, can I still send my letter to interfolio and ask them to mail it? would it be considered the same as the letters sent directly by profs? I found out about it late and now i only have 2 more schools which accept interfolio. I'm not sure if it's worth to spend $15 on that. thanks for any feedback!

Interfolio will mail letters directly, if the school does not accept them electronically. Link

i dont know how, but i've never had to pay for any electronic mailings. i've sent about 15 packets that way!
