I was just invited to the Berkeley interview and this is in our schedule:

1:00pm - 4:45pm

  • Admissions Interview
  • Classroom Simulation
  • Student Session
  • Essay Writing Exercise
(*Randomly assigned concurrent sessions, you must be available for this entire block of time.)

The first is self-explanatory. What are the rest of the them about and how do they factor in to our acceptance ? Or do they ?

Is the essay writing a timed exam with a prompt ? What kind of prompts do they have ?

Thanks for all your input.

Thats nothing...I was at an interview from 9am - 4pm or so. Don't remember the exact times, but THAT was exhausting!

As for whether the day past the interview factors into your acceptance, it is probably best to act as if it all matters (because it probably does). That is, you want to make a good impression on everyone you come in contact with there, from the professors obviously, to the office staff, and even to the other students interviewing (because they may become your classmates!). With that in mind, I would treat all the events of the day as if they are part of your interview.
Good luck with the day!

The interview and essay writing exercise should be, as you put it, self-explanatory. The essay is timed and there are a variety of different prompts that can be given.

The Classroom Simulation and Student Session are ways for you to get to know us. In a sense, it is your turn to interview us. During the classroom simulation you get to sit in on a lecture presented by one of our professors and during the student session you are encouraged to ask current students any questions that you may have about the curriculum and student life.

hope that helps

the classroom simulation and student session are just for fun and are a time for you to relax, get some questions answered and see if you like us and Berkeley. Everyone freaks out about the essay but it's really like writing a middle school 5 paragraph thing. the topics are different every year.

just be calm, be yourself, and be on good behavior. 🙂
