I find myself checking this thread a little too often, 5 times today!!!![]()

)
Berkeley had their interview day less than two weeks ago and all candidates were interviewed on the same day. They do not have rolling admissions. As far as I know we are waiting (and dying) to hear if we have been accepted...and I'm guessing that those who have been waitlisted will also find out around the same time about their status.
I'm hoping tomorrow (Valentine's) will be the lucky day!!!!!

omg everytime i see this thread bumped to the top i get scared that they sent out the invites and i didn't get mine
Hey guys!
I'm a 1st year at UCBSO...just wanted to let you guys know to hold on just a little longer! The acceptances have been made and they'll probably call you next week if you got in. If you got waitlisted or didn't get in, I think you just get an email. The hard copy comes much later due to Berkeley bureaucracy -_-. Hehe...good luck! Sorry you guys didn't get a nice Valentine's Day present like we did last year! It must be because our interview was a bit earlier...
I probably shouldn't say how many people were accepted, but...I just want to say...if you're a guy, you have a pretty good chance of getting in. The class of 2012 will probably have the most males since the female-male switchover several years back. Unless the guys reject their acceptance of course, haha. The rest of us classes are going to be jealous...(And my class thought WE had a ton of guys compared to the other classes...11 out of 61!) But I think the reason is that a lot more guys applied this year for some unknown reason. At my interview day last year...I think there were like 20 guys there total...this year you guys had like 40!
On the other hand I think everyone's odds are really good for getting in...something like 124 people interviewed right? That means at least half of you got in!

but then i got the wonderful wonderful message (i was too busy scarfin down my frozen yogurt to hear my phone ring haha)!!holleration to anyone NOT accepted to UCB!
HEYYY, thanks for the update! I did notice that there were quite a few guys on the interview day. I didn't realize gender actually influenced admission <?> My essay Q at the interview was about that and my answer was basically "HELL NO," that gender shouldn't play a part in admissions to healthcare programs. hehe. Hope that didn't annoy anyone reviewing my file.
NO! Gender does NOT influence your admission! I realize I may have come across that way on my original post, which is why I removed it, but it's quoted here so I might as well clarify it so nobody gets the wrong idea.
I was basically saying that (now that you guys have all the numbers) since 20 males were accepted into the program, it looks like if you are a guy, you may have gotten in since only 40-some interviewed. You didn't get in BECAUSE you are a guy. You ONLY get in based on your qualifications and your interview, and that's it. No ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc etc etc is ever taken into account. It's all about how qualified you are. So if you're a female and you look at the stats and wonder why you didn't get in, it's NOT because you're a girl. In fact, if you look at all the other classes besides the class of 2012, you'll see that we have very very few guys. It's just because more girls happened to apply and more of them happened to be fit for the program...it's not because admissions favors girls or guys or anything. So I hope I made that clear. Sharon confirmed this too (and brought my poor choice of wording to my attention...sorry everyone!).
Now on the other hand, if you didn't get in, I wouldn't say you were UNqualified...it was a very hard decision for the people up there to make and they did say every interviewee was very qualified - since to get to the interview in the first place, you had to be really good on paper (letters of rec, essays, scores, grades, whatever they require these days). So don't get down on yourself...I'm sure that if you were able to get an interview, you are highly qualified and will definitely have gotten in at another prestigious optometry school. If you were set on going to UCBSO...then...try again next year, and ask for feedback on why you didn't get in. That's what I was going to do if I hadn't gotten in (well, actually, I would've gone to SCCO haha).
Hopefully those of you who got in will choose to attend UCBSO, because I met a lot of you on Interview Day and thought you guys were great. I'm excited to see who comes out to Admit Day and who finally joins the Class of 2012 in August...and who I get for my little sib!! =) I will shower you with...lots of advice...lol.
Good luck and hope to see you soon! I am dying with exams this semester...>_< You won't believe how much you're going to learn your first year. I'm also about to drop $4000 on equipment this semester. 😵 [This will happen to you no matter where you go, it's just a matter of when =P]
