Berkeley JMP alternate list?

I just got a letter that I am an alternate for berkeley, which is absolutely my top choice -- just wondering if anyone knows about the admissions process there -- how many go on the alternate list? do they reject anyone post-interview or is everyone alternate (i doubt this happens)? how many get in off the alternate list, generally? the letter says don't call to see where you are on the list -- planning to send an LOI in case it could help. right now, i'm just thinking... at least it wasn't a rejection...
