Hey guys I took a free kapalan dat practice test recently and was kinda freaked out that 80% of the science questions were dealing with plants/animal kingdoms/bugs and very little human/hormone stuff.

I just bought the Kapaln blue book to study from...I was wondering what else is a good book with more detail to get?

I was thinking of Cliffs AP Bio (from my research here)? Would this be the only book I should get to get me through the DAT bio section?

Also what about the Barrons DAT book? It got really bad reviews on Amazon so was not sure.

PS I have DAT destroyer

I keep repeating this, and I'm starting to feel like a sales rep for Barron's, but from what I've gathered over the course of countless DAT breakdowns with high bio scores, Barron's AP Biology is absolutely amazing (apparently a huge exception in the line of Barron's books), even as a stand-alone. I have Cliffs and Barron's and honestly I've liked Barron's more, though both are certainly very good.

Edit: I should add, that to further take away from my credibility, I also have Campbell's 8th edition textbook, biology powerpoints and notes from gen bio 1 and 2, destroyer, and KBB; and of course I scour these forums daily. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't rely on one source, get as much coverage as you can, but also don't let the mass of biology info out there overshadow your studying in other subjects.

Also what about the Barrons DAT book?

I would not recommend Barron's DAT unless you are just looking for supplemental material for your supplemental material. I bought it a few weeks back and have been using it to study and I have found some typos and a few things in the bio section I'm sure aren't correct (i.e. after the light reactions, the electrons from the primary electron acceptor of PSI can either take the noncylical or cylical pathway :eyebrow:) And I didn't really agree with a couple of the answers they gave for some of the PAT questions. However I have heard nothing but good things about Barron's AP Biology and I plan on buying it soon.

Good luck! 👍

I have been praising barrons AP bio since I took my exam as well. I used the same book for my AP bio exam in highschool. Its a very, very simple read and it covered everything I needed to know.

I know nothing about barron's AP... but I liked cliff's AP, that plus KBB is "enough" for a decent score (decent score = 19-20 range)

i haven't taken the test yet, but i really really like the barrons ap bio too. their end of the chapter tests are not very good (too easy) but the material is easy to read and the full practice tests are great.
