Best book for Geriatrics

I want to buy a book for Geriatrics, do you have any suggestion?🙂

I'm not sure if you are looking for a textbook or pocket book, but I have "Geriatrics at your fingertips". To be honest, I have yet to figure out why geriatrics requires a different book then IM because other then the social issues, geriatrics=IM. I know that a lot of geriatricians would strongly disagree with this assertion though. Anyways, "geriatrics at your fingertips" is a decent pocketbook with a good amount of information in it (mostly IM info though). I actually got mine for free from a drug rep, but you can purchase a copy for $12 too. It fits very nicely in your white coat, but it's not the type of book that you would study from.

I don't have a geriatrics rotation at my school. What sort of things do they expect you to learn? Dementias and decubes?

If you are working in an inpatient setting, then yes, I suppose so. A geriatrician gave us all a talk saying that geriatricians aren't just glorified medical social workers who deal with things like placement issues, but I think that's what most doc's refer their patients to geriatricians for. They oftentimes have "inside" knowledge about how to get people into whatever facility they need to go to or whether or not they can be hooked up with home nursing and have a staff, like social workers, who know how to deal with this stuff too. This geriatrician told us that they also deal with poly-pharmacy and adjusting dosages of meds, so he reccomended that we refer our poly-pharm elderly patients to geriatrics too since they can often take more time to go over a med list. I think that a lot of geriatricians do the extra fellowship to work in academics. There are definitely a lot of geriatricians in private practice too, but I don't see why you would need the extra fellowship training to see only geriatric patients. You can essentially set up your practice however you see fit (eg see only geriatric vs young adult) as a general internist.
