I've heard stories and have received emails about how people have had HUGE problems with warranties at Best Buy...got the runaround...

Gotta say I've NEVER had a problem.

I buy most of my electronics there and ONCE AGAIN they come through!

I always buy the 3 year warranty on whatever.

Before my Mac days I had a Sony Vaio laptop....about 6 months after I bought it the modem went out...I brought it back and they gave me a brand new laptop!

Today my Halo Edition X Box took a s hit.👎

No worries though...called Best Buy to check the status of the warranty....I bought it in Jan 08...and yes I had the warranty....

She said "bring it in and we'll give you a new one."

YAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

A brand new X BOX!!!!

I love Best Buy.😍

My best buy experience with warranties or promises they give you at checkout has been completely the opposite. I have experienced multiple "at the cash register" pitches for why I should get this or that.

For example I was told if I used a best buy credit card to purchase this particular item it would be replaced free of charge if it was stolen, broken etc as long as the account was open. The item breaks and best buy refused that they would have ever told anyone this. What makes me so mad is, I didn't just ask a cashier, I then talked to the manager and multiple staff and they all agreed, that this is definitely how the ordeal works.

Second example, best buy sold ipods with an offer at one point stating if you pay some small amount of money (5-10 bucks for a warranty) if after 2 years you still have it you can get a brand new ipod for a very small amount of money, I believe $50. Upon explaining this to the sales people they looked at us like we were idiots. Luckily in this case one of the cashiers (much to the manager's displeasure I am sure) said "oh no that's true we actually did that 2 years ago when I started working here". They ended up giving us the offer that they promised but it was a huge ordeal.

I guess the moral of the story is, you need to make sure you get paperwork saying exactly what the cashier/manager is telling you or otherwise it never happened. Maybe that is obvious, but I suppose a life lesson I had to learn.

Again I have had bad experiences with these point of sale type promotions that they pitch to you and then forget ever happened. Not necessarily the same situation as purchasing a written three year warranty that is probably year round on any item all the time.

I always decline the store warranties. I figure it's like Vegas. The house always wins. Basically, the insurers will ALWAYS get their money. I only pay insurance if they tell me I have to (car) or if I have too much to lose (home, medical, malpractice)

Store warranties are good if the item you are buying is expensive and has a known history of failing.
For example I bought a 50 inch Sony LCD projection TV 5 years ago from Best Buy for a small fortune at that time, I also bought the 3 years in house repair contract for $200, 1 month before the end of 3 years the screen started showing strange colors so I called Best Buy and the TV repair man came to the house and replaced the color engine (a $2000 part) with an updated part for free, the TV now looks better than it did when I bought it.

completely unrelated, but xbox is really disappointing me

when did it come out? they still havent fixed the hardware breakdowns? ridiculous

Concur.

Shouldnt break after a year, huh?

There is a major hardware problem with the Xbox that Microsoft finally acknowledged and they claim to have resolved in the newer units.
As a result of that they extended the standard 1 year warranty on it.
By the way your Xbox is probably covered by Microsoft and they would have replaced it even without Best Buy.
A software company should not make hardware.

Well the RROD (red ring of death) is the only thing covered by the extended warranty. The newest problem plaguing the units is an E74 error with a single red light NOT covered by the extended warranty. It is an indirect result of a similar problem causing the RROD but they won't cover it. Supposedly the next Jasper chips installed in every new and repaired unit will prevent the problems - we'll see.

Glad to see though that best buy was honest with their warranty policy. I had a friend who bought their warranty and went to the store expecting an on the spot exchange but they stated that the agreement with microsoft has changed and they need to send it in for repair. Hopefully they'll do a better job with the next system

Have you seen Jet? Dude's huge. Best Buy was going to honor his warranty policy even if he bought from Circuit City.

This is one of the reasons I recently went PS3 over Xbox.

Also, free online gaming.

It sounds like the X360's game library, and user network, is bigger and better at this point, though.

Hey Jet ,I'm worried that dentist or pathologist moderators deem your thread inappropriate for an anesthesiology forum and shut down..... I' m sure they're watching you , better be careful.... ;-))

surprised you could just go in there and get a new one. Usually it requires mailing it in (only), then you have to wait for them to cut you a check and then you can go to the store to get a replacement. Usually it takes 2-3 weeks. They try to make it as inconvenient as possible for you.

I remember in 96-96 circuit city had the better policies in terms of return and warranty. BUt they went to ****.

I still believe BEst Buys days are numbered.

Best Buy has also been good to me. I had purchased a desktop computer and the extended warranty a few years ago. The monitor, which was one of those big monitors, crapped out. They ended up giving me a brand new flat screen monitor on the spot when I brought it in. Therefore, they are on my good list.

I generally like Best Buy too. They usually have the best selection of music and movies you can find (expect online), and the prices are usually reasonable.

The only issue I have is the people who work there who know nothing about the products they are selling, yet they act like they are freaking experts in everything they sell. It amazes me how little they know about the products and how much wrong information they will tell you instead of simply saying they can't answer your question. Not that this is Best Buy's fault--but it drives me crazy. :boom:

There was a time when i couldn't go to BB with my dad. He would always find the dumbest high school kid, then talk circles around him. My mother and I would just wait in the car.

Best Buy is OK if you don't have Fry's. Fry's is my temple.

I had a horrible experience at Best Buy. $1000s of dollars of business have gone to other companies. I have also convinced many friends not to shop there. While I always forgive individuals, I don't feel that contradicts my attempts to direct $$$ to other businesses..

I had a great experience with Dell. I bought a laptop from them with an extended warranty. The screen stopped working after 2 years. They sent someone to my med school during my lunch break to replace it. Piece of cake. I will likely buy my next computer from them in the next couple of months.

I've had 2 360's crap out on me. The quality is so horrible, but I have to live with it for my Halo and Gears of War I/II fixes. Hopefully this one will last me till June when I start internship and have no time to play games. Street Fighter IV consuming most of my free time now, but still haven't been able to locate a Hori or MadCatz stick without paying a premium on Ebay.

Another 👍 for BB today. Bought a nice big Panasonic flatscreen plasma from BB in Nov 2007 and have LOVED it, I mean 😍 capiche.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Panasonic made a run of TV's over the course of a couple months in 2007 which had a problem with the $800 power supply board. I find this out when I go to turn on my TV last week and sniff sniff what's that funny smell and why is my TV not lighting up. The power light is just blinking 7 times repetitively.

So I contact Panasonic who says yes, we are covering that issue under warranty even though the warranty is expired. All you need is your original receipt from BB. Oh ERRR I am sure I have that somewhere (pod furiously digging through my files) hmmm. Here is the BB flyer from the week I bought it... hmmm. "Well send the repair guy out to take a look and confirm the problem and I will see if I can locate the receipt."

So I go to BB today and say, "look can you help me out?" They say, "No problem, give me your BB rewards membership number. Ok here is the transaction and here is a reprinted original receipt." 👍👍

Hopefully I will be back up and running for the Bama-Ten and Arizona-NY Giants games this weekend.

Almost as good as the Apple store where they swipe my card and ask me if I would just like my receipt emailed to me? "Yes, of course", and it is in my inbox before I get home.
