My office runs on Softdent, its simple enough to use that even I can schedule a patient and not crash the system 😀 Easy to customize the schedule, runs very specific cash flow reports, easily integrates with Excel and Word, and the tech support has been good.

My wife (an orthodontist) runs her office with Kodak's ortho software (formerly practiceworks before Kodak bought them). Her and the other orthos in her office are also happy with it and the analysis features, ease of treatment plans, and the easy ability to customize letters to lowly GP's like me.

The biggest trend I'm noticing these days in many software packages (as long as your not a MAC user) is does it integrate with your digital radiography program, and if so, how easily. Thats why you're seeing things like Kodak buying practiceworks to streamline the whole radiography/practice management software integration.

Dr. Jeff,

Do you or your wife have any experience tracing with QuickCeph or Dolphin. How does Kodak ortho compare?

In my office I use Ortho2 for everything except imaging, and ceph tracing (Dolphin). Overall Ortho2 is a pretty good program...one of the downfalls is that it is a little involved to generate referral reports, patients lists of GP's, etc...A buddy of mine recently bought IMS for ortho and likes it a lot. Something to consider because IMS is significantly less than Orthotrac, Ortho 2, etc...
