This ranked list from US News and World Report - is it the same ranking as residency rankings? If not, how much of a correlation does this ranking bear to the residency programs at those locations?

How good a hospital is based on a consumer's point of view and how good their residency programs are -- do you really think they'd be the same? not a chance. besides, plenty of hospitals have good residencies in some specialties and horrible residencies in others...

However, I will say that oftentimes the "best" hospitals are the ones that get some of the best cases and have some of the most reknowned surgeons. People will fly across the country to go to a certain hospital, and being a medical student at said hospital does allow you to see some stuff you might otherwise not see. I'm not saying you should choose a med school based on that, but it doesn't hurt.

Agreed, some the best hospitals have world reknowned experts in their fields and people (kings, celeberties, forgein dignitaries, and presidents) well come from all over the planet to be treated by them. I'd assume the residency training at such places would be pretty good.

Agreed, but I also think that at this point, pre-meds shouldn't be concerned with the residency program strength at their prospective institution. Good residency programs do no a good medical school make, although there is plenty of overlap. Better to go to a medical school where you'll actually get contact with attendings who are interested in you, rather than attempt to follow the super-rock-star surgeon who hasn't seen a medical student in fifteen years. Also, it's a steadfast rule that as soon as you go to an institution because of a single superstar or two, they will retire as soon as you arrive.
