Dear all,

There are many websites out there that help the IMG graduates in selecting residency programs to apply to, the ones at which an IMG could have a chance at obtaining an interview.

They ask some info about the IMG such as step1 score, step2, us experience etc... and give you a list of residency programs that could secure you an interview.

Examples are matcharesident.com, imgresidency.com etc...

Most are pay sites so I would like to ask you: which site offers the best servies, the most accurate list?

Many thanks!

Do well on your USMLE's. That, and only that will get you interviews. I dont know much about those services you mentioned, but I think they are full of sh%$. I'm an IMG, did well in school and on USMLE's. I had so many invites I had to turn some down. Just work hard on your boards. Dont waste money with a "finding" service! GL

Yes you are absolutely correct APACHE3.

But, for those of us who are cursed with not so high of grades on USMLE (such as my disappointing 83 on step1), we should really well research to which programs we apply, the ones that might secure us an interview and are IMG friendly. Applying to residencies not IMG friendly or requiring high grades will be a waste of money perhaps.

So, anyone tried such service and was satisfied? Which ones are the most professional and not BS filled?

Dont get me wrong. I did NOT hit a homerun on my boards. My step 2 was better than my Step 1. I made the cut-off for most programs in IM. I'm sure there were plenty of better scores out there. But I presented a complete package and I interview well. And you are right, I did apply smartly. I had interviews at both academic and higher tier Community hospitals, but I knew I did not stand a chance at MGH, Hopkins, Wash. U, etc, etc, so why waste their time and mine. With your Step 1 score, you need to apply to 30-50 IM programs. Hopefully you'll get 10-15 interviews. and BEST advice...Apply in September!!! Dont wait,..GL

If you have scored low and don't know where to apply then you must get a customized list and only matcharesident.com offers such service. At the long run it can save you money because if you apply to programs that don't meet your credentials then you are wasting your money. Also it saves you the calling part which can be very time consuming and annoying. IMGResidency does not offer such service. I have used matcharesident last year and got 11 interviews but I did not complete my CS on time and must go for another year. I have low usmle scores. good luck

Now is not the time to worry about whether you spend 200, or 2000 on applications. In fact, that's a pretty nearsighted way to look at your situation.
Since your Step 1 isn't a doorbuster, then you have to make up in other arenas. Take 2 early, and rock it. Do well in all clinicals, and study hard for your shelf exams (if your school uses them). Make some good contacts, and have them write you strong LOR's. Finally, and here's what those websites don't want you to know, go to every foreign/carib/International schools website, and take a look at where the students were accepted, and what specialty!! Make a list of those programs, and then consider applying to all of them.
Again, 2 grand is nothing in the scheme of things, and you'd be doing yourself a favor by applying far and wide.
Good luck
