hello all can you guys tell me which program is considered the best program in internal medicine? Also, I'll be a DO graduate so if you guys know of any programs that do not accept DO graduates please let me know, thanks for the help,

Dr. DOn

This is a very subjective topic. I would suggest that you try doing a search because this is a topic that has been discussed, nay argued over quite a bit on this forum.

Do a search, so many threads discussing this.
Right now i believe Hopkins is #1 or so, and then u have other highly ranked programs like Brigham in Boston, Harvard, UCSF?

The answer to this question is "it depends". It depends on what you want to do when you finish, if you want to do research, what fellowship (if any) you want, etc. In general, programs tend to stratify. It's hard to separate Hopkins from B&W from MGH, etc, but these are clearly in a different strata than your local state medical school, which is again in a different strata from most community programs.

Be prepared for a tough time, though, because at "top programs" people tend to be very arrogant and where you are from becomes as important as how smart you are (my personal opinion). You will get great training and get a fellowship somewhere from just about any university-based program.

Having just gone though this, let me caution you not to get caught up in rankings or other peoples' opinions (which are really the same thing). You need to do what's right for you, not for someone else.

some DO friendly IM programs, all university based and strong:
Baystate Medical Center (Tufts Western Mass affiliate, big L1 trauma center)
U Conn
Maine Medical Center (UVM affiliate in Portland)
UMDNJ-RWJ and NJMS
MSU
Lahey Clinic (Tufts-Burlington MA)

-don't know any other specific programs, but any good IM programs that are located very near DO schools are probably more likely to take DO grades (i.e. the Philly programs (TJU, Temple, Drexel), any of the Florida schools b/c of Nova SE)
Most of the Boston programs are not all that DO-friendly from what I know; I'm also not under the impression that most of the West Coast powerhouse IM programs like UCSF, UCLA, Stanford, UCSD are particularly DO-friendly either.
good luck!

I will also add these programs to top IM programs:

PA: U of Pittsburgh
U of Penn

NY: Columbia
NYU
Cornell

MA: MGH
Brigham Women's

ME: JHU
