What's up guys, I am trying to get ready for my interviews and was wondering if anyone knew what they are looking for when they ask the big question. I really want to help people, but I know that they hear that all the time. Does anyone have any ideas?

If the reason you want to be a doctor is because you want to help people than say so. An honest but common answer is better than a BS'd "I'm trying to be different" one.

aw, you're so nice for posting a real answer.

then there's the rest of us jerks....😎

Dammit... I'm too tired to think of a really good smartass answer. As such, I'm just going to wait for people to give honest responses, because I'd like to see what other people really said.

Tell the truth (even if it is a little cliche), and then elaborate on it by using experiences from your past.

Bah, I always miss my chance at these. All the good ones are taken...

Sit down and really think about it. If it's cliche, articulate it in a unique way and use specific examples.

Because you hate people and want to stab them legally...

no??, am i the only one?

Don't fall on 'I want to help people' without massive expansion. The guy who gives me towels in the mens room at my favorite bar helps people. Nurses help people. Guidance counselors help people. Desire to help people by itself does not equal wanting to be a doctor.

"I want to help people help me to help myself to a BMW"

J/K!

Just don't answer because of the money as a joke... my interviewer didn't like that...or because I needed a way to write prescriptions for drugs for my drug dealers...he didn't like that either.😀

You have a mens room attendant at your favorite bar? Damn dude! What kind of bars do you go to?

I want to help Kerry Wood and Mark Prior stay healthy so they can bring the Cubs a World Series win in 100 years.

Is that good enough?

You mean you want to be a magician and/or shaman?...b/c it's gonna take something supernatural for that to happen😀

I'd say it's because of my largely successful experiences with recreational drugs, and I thought I could expand those experiences to non-recreational ones.

There's nothing I love more than an unkempt hooker. And doctor backwards is "Rot Cod."

It was a no brainer.

You are the man if you really answered with one of those

When they ask , "Why Medicine?"

You should take out a small boom box with a Limp Bizkit CD in it and play...
"NOOKIE" LOL..........👍👍👍

Interviewer: Tell me. Joe or Joseph, why do you want to be a doctor?
Joe Slovak: That's easy. I want to help people.
Interviewer: Come one Joe, you can be honest with me. Why do you want to be a doctor?
Joe Slovak: Well, uh, I want to make lots of money.

In the words of Lil' Kim, "Money, Power, Respect." And we all know how she turned out..

I think this guy really wants to know a good answer...

Im not gana say exactly what im going to say but i think a really good answer would be something like

1. i've always been interested in health care as you can see with all of my EC's

2. I am excited by the lifestyle and the breath of career choices that I would have as a doctor

3. I've always had the desire to help people (as you can see with my EC's) but i understand that there are many career choices that help people. Medicine is the one that most interests me because...

4. I am interested in a life of learning as well as doing. Doctors are constantly reading papers and learning new tequniques. they are not stagnant. This fits my personality
