notice how you replied when I WAS STILL WRITING THE POLL QUESTIONS!!

Anyway, this gives me a chance to say that "General Hospital" is er, too much of a soap opera to be of any consideration, and the ones on Discovery Channel and TLC are more like documentaries... and thereby "unlistable".

hehehe opps, well i like greys anatomy but you should have had the life time show "residents" i was sooooo addicted to that show...

Grey's Anatomy and House, MD, are two of the worst TV shows ever.

The first several years of ER were the best TV show ever. Nowadays, sadly, ER's more about the drama of romantic relationships and shock value than the realities of medical training and emergent care. I'm not entirely sure when the show will start to slip, but I've only seen the first three seasons and the last three seasons. Currently, Scrubs is best because they're at least funny. I wish the show would have started with them as MSIIIs though. Grey's Anatomy is complete crap... but I just can't stop watching it.

I'd really like to see HBO do a medical drama. I think their dramas have been second to none in the past several years and my feeling is that they could do an excellent job. Not having censuring issues faced by the networks, they could also have a more realistic and versitile show. Then again, in a few months I won't have to be living vicariously though medical TV shows. I'll finally be able to start my own medical life!

Yeah I totally agree with dopaminophile. Except I would have voted for the Discovery Health ones if they'd been there 👍

Watch Discovery Health for good medical shows. Reality shows like "First Days" about the life of interns/residents and their medical procedural shows are fascinating.

yeah, speaking of discovery health...i was channel surfing one night and i hit on this show that i think was called "First Birthdays." Pretty much showing all the births that occurred that day...it would show one, then cut to the next one, then the next, then the next. it mesmerized me.

Well, my poll was meant for fictional shows... if you want to rate reality shows, then you should create a new poll.. cause like fact and fiction belong in separate categories.. just my opinion...

Hmm. You left out Nip/Tuck.

But I have to agree with dopaminophile. The early ER shows were awesome.

grey's anatomy 4 life!

I like Strong Medicine on Lifetime.

Me too! 👍

The only thing that's a bit off is that their makeup is always perfect, right down to the lip gloss. What docs in their setting have perfect makeup!

EDIT: I know, I know -- it's TV. 😛

I agree with that statement. Grey's Anatomy irks me. Each character manages to annoy me to no end.

Yeah, but I just can't stop watching it. 😳

I still like ER, even with all the character drama. Plus all the male doctors are really cute. 👍

Where's Nip/Tuck?

few comments:

1) Isn't Nip and tuck about plastic surgery??? That doesn't really count as a medical show, in my view, because it only encompasses one area... which is why I left it out.

2) I tried to list shows that are Network TV, and specifically not Cable.... cause we don't all have Cable ( I don't for instance), therefore some may be unfamiliar with them.

Haven't you guys ever watched M*A*S*H? I started watching the re-runs on the Hallmark channel last year and got hooked, that show was awesome.

I watched the series finale... it was actually a very funny book before it was a TV show, before it was a movie. Actaully it was a series of books: MASH, MASH goes to Maine, MASH goes to LA, MASH goes to London.

I have to give MASH some much deserved props here. While I'll be the first to admit that it focused on the personalities of physicians/medical staff rather than the actual practice of medicine (though according to a mentor who was a MASH surgeon, they got the basics right) it did sort of show people that the topic of medicine was sitcom worthy. I think it's a little early for Grey's Anatomy and House to be in the running for best medical show. They're alright, but in their first season, its a little hard to call them classics, eh?

amen!

so my vote is for Scrubs!

if you are gonna put soap operas like "grey's anatomy" on the list, you might as well put "general hospital." :meanie:

I never thought of it like that :meanie:

heck, yeah! with "general hospital" you get some real-life medical issues... like amnesia every other show... or rare indian cobra poisonings... people who have been frozen for 20 years and come back to thaw and live productive, evil lives... people who come back from the dead... brain transplants... and my favorite... the rapid aging of children--2 years old in one episode and 12 in the next.

yeah, so I watched Grey's Anatomy for the first time last night.... and starting wondering.... If that's the Season Finale, whose asscrack did they pull the other episodes out of?

I'm on the early ER bandwagon. I got the first season for my wife and we didn't watch one for months. One day I opened it - hooked. Watched three DVDs in a row.

The realism is good and the drama wasn't over the top.

Just watched a few episodes of Nip/Tuck. I'll admit, it's EXTREMELY addicting, but it certainly has very little to do actual medicine and a lot more to do with modern cultural issues/ drama. So I still don't regret not putting on the list.

Anyway, I've wasted too much time typing- I'm ready for some more Nip/Tuck.

mmm mmm

I find myself watching Dr. 90210 on E! and Trauma on A & E. Nothing like the real thing. 👍

Doogie only has 4%!?!?!?! What the hell kind of cruel world is this?

I think the Harold and Kumar movie might have given ol' NPH a bad rep. In either case, that was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen!!!

Anyway, back to TV......

I'll do you one better and put them in order

1) Scrubs
2) ER
3) M*A*S*H
4) House
5) Doogie Howser
.....
99) Grey's Anatomy

I was just going to say that. I love that show. I also know that the OP said the Discovery channel shows don't count, yet seeing an actual live birth or seeing live surgeries on TV is far more interesting then overrated drama of some of these other shows like E.R., which are sooooo unrealistic.

Also, ER got knocked off my good list when Dr. Green died.

To people who actually like Grey's Anatomy: for holy jeebus's sake, why ?!?!??

Why is MASH on the list?

It's been a long time since I've read the MASH books but I seem to remember an awful lot of very racist characters and overtones. The movie tamed it up significantly and the TV series was based on the movie.
