I need to contact a few doctors for this class that requires me to interview various professionals. I'm interested in medicine, so I need to interview a few doctors. How would you guys go about doing this? Look them up through a hospital directory? Then email them? Which specialties do you think would be most willing to have me for an interview? The lifestyle ones? Any advice is appreciated.

I would do exactly what you described. Email, I have found, is the most convenient and efficient way for both you and the doctor.

As far as the specific specialty and interviewing them in person, I think this might be difficult. I feel like doctors in a hospital are always speed-walking from one place to another. Once they've accomplished what they need to at one place, they're off to the next task.

How long do you need for the interview? Can this be done via email? If you want to do it in person, you might just have to shadow them for a day and squeeze in your questions then.

Thanks for the response! The specialty doesn't really matter, I was just going to aim for the specialties that getting an interview in would be easier. The interview does need to be in person for this class, and recorded on tape. 🙁

if your school has a medical school there may be a directory of affiliated doctors. They're usually more receptive to requests like this. I had to do an interview like this last semester; I just called doctors on the list, and eventually found one willing to do it.

I think you'll just have to email random doctors of random specialties then. You might have someone who you think might not be that busy but is unwilling to meet with a pre-med, but you might find a busy surgeon who would be more than happy to sit and talk with you for an assignment. Some are just willing to be more flexible than others, despite what their schedule is.

The best method is via unmarked packages left on the front steps of the office 🙂

Follow one home and wait for them to leave in the morning. If you can beat them to their car then I'm sure a conversation of sorts will arrise.
