Hello fellow 2008 cycle applicants,

I was planning on a trip for about a month or two abroad. I will still have access to the internet and all, but mailing secondaries and obviously interviews will be hard to do during that period,

When should I plan this trip? This winter ? Next spring? How about around August,?

After you've been accepted somewhere. Little time to be having fun until you have that acceptance in your hand. Then your trip will be MUCH sweeter. 😀

I tried this last time and it was the worst decision i ever made - i kept delaying doing fun things because i felt guilty about missing something throughout the application season. in retrospect, i wasted months of time in despair that i could have spent actually happy. while it would be nice to have the comfort of an acceptance, i'd say that a good month to take your trip would be july - IF you've already had amcas verified and all your letters are on file. You can start to work on some secondaries, if you get them, through the internet - so take a laptop with you or make sure there's an internet cafe around.

Hmm... take his advice, but July is quickly approaching. I guess I was thinking a trip out of the country since those take time to plan and July is really too late, I'd think.

august might be ok too if you've got nothing else going on, but by then the secondaries start rolling in, so you might not have as much free time...

next spring is a good idea assuming that you will have an acceptance or 2 under your belt. If you dont though, you wont be fully able to enjoy it.

well, like i said earlier, next spring never came true for me - it became "in the summer after i get off of 1 waitlist" to "oh crap, its september and i have no idea what i'll be doing now." of course, everyone's situation is different.
