This one takes the cake. We had a home nurse taking care of a cancer patient a while back. It was discovered that she'd developed bradycardia for no apparent reason. Upon investigation, it was determined that her Dilaudid was being stolen by the nurse. She was on the bright yellow 4mg tabs, and the nurse was stealing them and replacing them with Atenolol. Unbelievably, she would color the tablets with hi-lighter so no one could tell the difference. Except for the markings, they were damned hard to tell apart. Some people will do anything for their fix..

Fun thread!

At a jail that'll remain unnamed (not the one where I work), a nurse was using an X-acto knife to slice open the unit-dose packages of Percocet and Oxycontin 10 mg, and replacing the pills inside with with Seroquel 200 mg and Toradol 10 mg respectively, and taping them closed.

A guy came to the ER once, looking to fill "1 lb of mofine x 99 refills." That's what was written on the rx paper.

I'm guessing she was a redneck ans used Duct Tape? lol, I'm guessing no one will find that funny except for me since I come from a town where the motto is

"There are two things you need in life: WD-40 for when things don't move and they should and Duct Tape for when things move and they shouldn't"

Not narcs, but here in Oklahoma there's a huge craze for Prometh w// Codeine. Seekers regularly come out of the wood work looking for the Actavis brand (first warning sign).

Typically they have an antibiotic too, and request that to be placed on hold.

Aparently if you mix that stuff with an energy drink and down it, you get an extreme high.... beats me though.

Anyways, Guy came in and had traced over doctors hand writing on everything (in different color pens no less and styles too, one was black ink and seeker used blue gel....). We could see originally written for Prometh VC Codeine and seeker tried to change to Prometh - Codeine and upped the quanity from 2 oz to 8 oz. Claimed his kid drew on the script... lol.

We had a guy bring in a methadone rx once:

methadone 140mg (1 dose)

The kid had changed the "10mg" into a "140mg" and somehow thought it didn't look suspicious...

Well, you must know that duct tape is like the Force: dark on one side, light on the other, and it holds the universe together.

Back o/t: in one memorable day about 15 years ago, I caught 3 (three!) folks in separate incidents (didn't know each other, different doctors) who altered the quantity on their narcotic scripts. All three of them put on a great show of being completely baffled, denying they had any idea how this happened.

That's a daily occurrence at my last store...

Here's another good one. Recently, we had nurse outside the hospital with a full Rx bottle of stolen Oxycontin. Not only was the idiot selling it on the premises during her breaks, but she was selling it to the other nurses. To make matters worse, she did not even know what it was worth. She was giving it away for just 2-3 bucks per pill. The narc cop came and she confessed quickly and rolled on all of her customers.

A drug dealer in the jail tells me it goes for $1/mg in my city. CoptoPharm was saying it goes for $1.50/mg where he lives (but he won't tell me where that is).

Took the following phone call today: Pt would like to start getting Rxs from your store. The "Nurse" gave me pt's name, birthday and address. She was speaking so slowly I could actually write everything nicely. Then she slowly and very clearly told me Clonazepam 1mg 1-2 HS PRN #60, no refills. I ask for the DEA number and get 53127. So I ask for the letters and she says CR. Dr's name starts with S and is a local doc we fill for all the time. Cops were called but the "patient" never showed.

In Canada you can buy OTC tylenol #1 with 8mg of codeine in it if you ask the Pharmacist for a bottle and its dirt cheap -about 8 dollars Canadian for a bottle of 100 tablets.

Anyhow I had this customer come up to the Pharmacy and ask for "the special tylenol you know with is it co-d-eine?" and a pack of gravol. I handed her the 25 pack of T1's but she clearly was not impressed and asked if their was a larger pack of 100.... Anyhow after ringing up her 100 Tylenol with codeine (no Rx needed :S ) and gravol she handed me the exact change, loonies (1 dollar canadina FYI) nickels pennies and all.

Its kind of sad really seing those customers drugged up and killing their liver one pill at a time.....The Pharmacist I work for also works overtime at another store and said shes a regular-Yikes 😛
