I was just wondering which Navy hospital you guys think is the best for doing an internship out of med school. I want to do a FS tour and go into a surgery (maybe) residency after. Thanks.

That's a good question but not a real easy one to answer. I'm only a 3rd year so I haven't done an internship anywhere, obviously, but I have been stationed in a few of the places and spent some time at others.

The deal with picking your internship, as you allude to, has alot to do with what you eventually think you want to do. The Navy GME website details which GME1 slots "qualify" you for the GME2+ positions, so you can start there. If you really have no idea, a transitional would be good, but if you're fairly sold on sugery of some sort obviously a GME1 in surgery would be better. All that aside you might want to consider where you want to do FS, either east or west coast. Although it's not always the case, it's easier to get a billet nearer to you than farther when PCS dollars are tight.

Not a great answer, but some food for thought. If you post questions about a particular site you might get better answers, and my answering might bump the thread up so someone smarter can give you more info!!

Good Luck,
Spang
