Best PDA and PDA software??

I'm considering purchasing a PDA before I start rotations this Feb, I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions to which one I should buy and what software is the best?

I have the palm phone....it sucks as a phone ( i have limited coverage in my house) but it is great for a pda. i look up drugs all the time. for now, i use the free version of epocrates and it works fine. i think i will fork over some cash when i start my rotations though, just for peace of mind.

I think that would be a really good idea. I plan on getting one before starting school this fall and it would be helpful to have some information available in the FAQs to refer to later on. Thanks🙂

For software, I use Lexi-Complete, available for $150 through pharmacist.com. It runs on all PDAs.

The PDA itself doesn't make any difference. Just look for the features that you want. I got the one with the built-in Blackberry style keyboard. It's easier for me to type, than to poke with a stylus. Mine also has built-in Wi-Fi, which I don't use. The newer model has a built in MP3 player, which I also would not use. On rotations, I just need access to drug info.

I plan to purcahse the Lexi-Comp program for my rotations begining in May. I use free epocrates know just for basic reference. I have asked a numer of 4th year students their recommendation and overwhelmingy Lexi-Comp is the preferred choice. Many students have exp[ressed how helpful it is on rotations.

For PDA, find one that has a built-in (physical) keyboard, e.g. Tungsten W. Find one that has wireless built-in also so you can check and reply your email messages during a boring lecture.

For software, epocrates is excellent for a beginner. Lexi-comp has more thorough information but user interface is not as good as ePocrates. You can wirelessly update ePocrates drug database if your PDA supports it.
