Top Pharmacy School

UB is the largest and most comprehensive university center in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and the first public university in New York to be admitted (in 1990) into the Association of American Universities (AAU), joining North America’s other leading research universities. Ranked among the top pharmacy schools in the U.S. and one of the top departments in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and biopharmaceutics in the world, you’ll learn alongside the brightest students and from some of the most renowned faculty in the discipline. Our programs include quality staff, students, graduates, and faculty including Distinguished Teaching Professors and recipients of the Chancellor's Awards for Excellence, so you can expect to learn from and with the best.

0-6 - ACP (your only choice for 0-6, really...)

I may be biased as i attend SUNY Buffalo, but whether you base it on national rankings or just overall reputation i'd say UB is the "best" in New York. I did my undergrad there as well and i love it.

I really dont care about rankings... im looking at the area the school is in, and the program.. pretty interested in new york city, so looking at touro and LIU but Ill check out Buffalo as well now

How would you compare life in amherst to new york city. I live in Austin texas which has about 800,000 people, I wonder about life in new york city, if it would be intense.. Ive decided tonight to apply to UB pharm for sure, still deciding whether or not i should drop LIU from the list

Wait, wait, wait... are you a NY resident attending UT Austin? Or a TX resident wanting to get out of TX?

Ive been to NYC a few times and Ive lived in the Buffalo/Amherst area all my life. Its really hard to compare considering they're so different. Its pretty hard to compare anything to NYC haha especially a suburban town. But Amherst is is pretty nice place. I think it was rated as safest city in America not too long ago. I enjoy living there, all your major stores and restaurants are right there. There's a golf course down the road and skiing in the winter is not too far away.

Of course its no NYC. But UB itself is great school. Its like a mini city within a city. There's like 30,000+ students there i think. And they're building a brand new pharmacy building that's opening in 2012 and its supposedly state of the art stuff.

Good luck with your final choice

You're going to get a highly biased opinion based on where that person goes, because, for the most part, people have only attended one school in the state.

That being said, I vote Buffalo. The level of scholarly activity and professional involvement is beyond that which you'll see at any other school in the state, and the academic rigor is far and away above the other schools. Doesn't hurt that tuition is also lower than anywhere else.

You do lose the larger NYC hospitals as "home" rotation sites, but there are plenty of inpatient experiences to be had in Buffalo. If you have a home base outside of Buffalo, there are a pretty wide variety of away rotation sites in New York (including the big ones - New York Presby, Montefiore, North Shore, SUNY Upstate and Downstate, Univ. of Rochester) and across the country. Setting up a site also isn't too difficult, provided you give the school time to do it.

But again, that's just the opinion of a person who goes to UB.

Rutgers if you mean in the "NY area"...Buffalo, otherwise.

On the PSAR it says buffalo waives alot of credits if you enter with a bachelors degree calII plus alot of others, but on the buffalo site it doesnt say this anywhere, what is the deal?

Off the top of my head i really don't know. Personally i've never heard about them waiving pre-reqs for people with degrees but it sounds like a plausible scenario. Best bet would probably be to send them a quick email to clarify because i couldn't find anything on their site referring to it either.

I'm starting there as a P1 at the end of August. I have a bachelors and they waived a bunch of pre-reqs that I didn't take because of that (stuff like psychology, economics, and maybe anatomy). I know this is going to change slightly next year.

It was awesome. Saved me a lot of money by not having to take summer classes.

The prerequisite waiver requirements have changed substantially in the last year, and I'm not sure that they've been finalized yet. Your best bet is to call the admissions office to verify what can and cannot be waived.

yup they changed it completely, I cannot apply now. 🙁
