Best Place in USA for a Pharmacist?

Philly, ugh. I spent last year living in S. Philly and am glad that I'll never have to live there again. Yeah, we had a few good neighbors and there are some great sites in the city, but overall the people are very rude and disgruntled. Example, my wife used to get honked at consistently during her 3rd trimester while walking across intersections b/c she moved too slow for most Philadelphian's patience level. Who honks at pregnant women? C'mon. The 406 homicides last year and the filthy streets are more reasons not to go there.
However, I did know some people who lived in Center City and loved it, but I think it was b/c they didn't venture too far beyond downtown.

Yeah....that's why you don't go to North Philadelphia....or anywhere near Temple...

Stick around South Street or near the historical **** and it's pretty safe. Well, at least I like it...

Cute..

Just drove across the country again. Have to say that Tennessee and Arkansas DO NOT END. They don't look that big but holy crap.

Shenandoah Valley is beautiful. I think my pony would love me if I moved him from the desert to a place like that. I'm looking more seriously at Maryland than I was before. I guess I'll just have to make more money and spend less to be able to afford it!

TX, OK, NM. things got progressively browner as I went west. I don't mind the desert but I mind the lack of proximity to "stuff". I stayed the 2nd night in OK City and was a bit underwhelmed.

Where at in Maryland? Baltimore is an underrated city, IMO. Of course, the murder rate is astronomical....but it's a cool town. The further West in the state you go, the cheaper it is....

I feel the same way about Baltimore - we describe it as "DC's ugly cousin - but more fun!" These days the murders are mostly drug dealer on drug dealer, they've done a pretty good job of leaving everyone else out of it for the most part. I'll most likely live outside of the city a bit because of the horses, I know tht I'm too lazy to drive an hour each way in traffic to ride if the weather is anything short of gorgeous.

The humidity was a bit much for this desert rat but overall I didn't think the weather was too bad. I'm still interested in further south (all my family is in MD, unlike most people I want to be FAR from them) but really the Baltimore metro area is pretty sweet - you get the amenities of a medium-sized city with DC an hour away, Philly 2, NYC...

Hey..that's awesome... save those Pro-V1x for me..if you find em.

I find those damn golf balls all the time. I'll be reeeaalll upset if one hits my brand new car.

May I suggest Virginia Beach, too. It's in that general area, it's growing, it's fun..but..man...it's EXPENSIVE.

I still think the best city in the region is Pittsburgh. It's my type of eclectic...

I really liked this one city in Maryland, Cumberland (at least I liked it ten years ago; maybe it's changed since then). I just remember it as being real pretty and quaint. That might be a little too far north for me, though. However, I do want to live for a couple of years in close proximity to some civil war battlefields. Wherever I move, it has to have lots of trees around it. I have this obession with trees--I want my house to be surrounded by them.

Cumberland gets entirely too much effing snow.

you must remember I moved away from MD when I was 12 and lived in New Mexico and Arizona since then. I don't "do" snow.

I agree that Baltimore is underated and the crime is overat....well it is there but you have to be causious anywhere. The realestate in the Baltimore area is more reasonably priced than other areas. I love the inner harbor, little italy has great resteraunts(if you go at night go in a group). It takes you 2 hours to get to Philly from B-more? You must drive slow.:meanie:

Oh yeah, I live in Bowie. Its a nice little town, 20 minutes from downtown DC or B-more. 15 minutes from Annapolis(great town) There is a dinner theater there that is cool.

What about Washington DC? Any idea regarding Dupont Circle area? I'm thinking about moving there. :hello:

haha, I was just picking a number -I haven't made that drive in awhile. Little Italy has these great outdoor movie nights in the summer. We went a couple times, great way to spend a Friday night.

I've heard wonderful stuff about Annapolis too, but I haven't had the chance to really get down there and explore.

Hint: all the best places are not in US. Though they all have outrageous taxes, don't really accept our diplomas, and require EU citizenship to get a decent job. 😀

Nah, not really. For a PHARMACIST, the best place to practice is in the United States, bar none. Far, far more opportunities and better pay. The only advantage I'd see of living in Europe is for retail pharmacists...only having one insurance company to deal with would be sweet.

Who the hell wants to live in Europe, anyway? I'd have to buy a $25,000 satellite setup just to be able to pirate WVU football games. At least here I have PPV ESPN gameplan so I can watch it anywhere coast-to-coast. And what is their big sport? Soccer? Freakin' yawn. Where would I go for some BBQ? What the hell would I do if I wanted a pepperoni roll? What the hell would I do if I wanted to go to Dave & Busters? Man....**** that...

It really isn't bad...
You'd just eat salami or ham baguettes, drink the local microbrew, play darts, and watch the World Cup or EURO soccer matches then NBA tournaments. I lived in Germany a few years back. I used to hang out at this hole-in-the-wall called Holzwurm:

I will probably stay in Oklahoma, land is cheap, taxes are low, pharmacy jobs are plentiful and there is little snow. Texas also gets a vote, especially since they have no income taxes on your retirement and I have a scattering of relatives around the SA area (although SA is too urban for me).

What do u mean by "best places"? To work or to spend vocations? I lived in Europe for many years and confidently can state that US is a much much better place to work. Period. As far as vocations, yeah, perhaps... I would spend a week in Toscana rather Kentucky, but it's a matter of personal preferences.
BTW, Europe does accept US diplomas and u don't have to have EU citizenship to have a decent job. Where r u puling this stuff from anyway?
