Hi,

I was hoping to get some insight from some of you who probably have more experience than I do about where a good place would be to intern as a first year pharm student. I've done some volunteering at a community pharmacy, but am looking at something that will give me more hands on experience, but won't be too hectic so that I can learn a lot from the pharmacist.

I'm located in northern California and do have access to a car, and am also familiar with the East Bay. I know that the VA in SF offers jobs to first years, but I'm concerned about their flexibility, ability to learn from the pharmacists (as opposed to just being paid to file), and am also curious about what the going wage is for an intern.

If you guys have suggestions for other places that would be a good place to learn from, please let me know!

Don't worry about the wages at the VA... but VA's experience will be invaluable.. Do the VA thing. And since VA is a federal gov job, you can't beat the retirement plan and start building your years now. You'll have 4 years of VA by the time you become a pharmacist.

Do all VA hospitals hire first years? I live closer to the one in Sacramento. I was thinking of checking it out. I was also thinking about looking at Kaiser. I heard good things on here about them. Riteaid was willing to pick first years and they are a lot closer to where I live. Does anyone know what the expectations (time wise) of interns at these different places are?
