Hey guys,

Been skimming through lots of posts here in the Step 2 forum and it looks like some here recommends MTB series of books for the nbme exams and Step 2. A lot of guys from my school aced both and swear by Kaplan's CK lecture notes.

What is the consensus around here? (aka what is Phloston using? jk) Thanks.

I personally think the Kaplan Step 2CK lecture notes are fantastic. I wouldn't use them as a sole source for studying for Step 2CK, but they were awesome for shelf exams. As an adjunct to your studies if you have time? I say go for it. The two I liked best were pediatrics and OB/gyn. I don't know about the others.

The classic resources are UWorld, MTB 2 and/or 3, Step Up to Medicine, Step Up to Step 2, DIT, Secrets, etc. It really depends on what fits your learning style, what you feel you mesh with, and what you're used to. Just read around the forums, pick up a couple of the books in a bookstore and check them out, and go with what you feel you like best.

Ob/Gyn Kaplan notes were excellent and covered a good deal of topics that are important and not in the MTB books. The lecturer was also excellent for Ob/Gyn in the Kaplan videos. The rest of Kaplan was meh and probably only worth doing if you have time.

MTB 2/3 annotated with UWORLD is the popular approach though. MTB is also from my experience taken from the Kaplan LN. Sometimes entire sentences/paragraphs word for word, throughout all the sections. Keeping that in mind MTB is a a nice concise HY review book of Kaplan LN.
