Hey guys, I will be applying for an anesthesia residency spot this fall and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on what were the best programs south of virginia?

USMD, step 234, Mid tier med school, top 50% class rank, mostly Honors with a couple high pass

(in semi-geographical order)

Duke
UNC
Wake
MUSC
Emory
Florida
Miami
UAB

Agreed. OP should throw in a few more mid-tier programs like Louisville, UK, Tulane and maybe UF-Jax just to be safe. A better (>20 point improvement) Step 2 and you’re in good shape.

Vanderbilt. UAB. Duke. Wake Forest.

I would have probably included Vandy except OP was asking about places south of Virginia and Nashville is more west of Virginia (albeit a small bit south).

UK is excellent, Louisville is OK, Tulane is trash.

Thanks everyone I appreciate all the input. If anyone that has trained at any of these programs and can offer some more insight I would appreciate that. Thanks

Never defecate next to your door. 😉

After reading about Duke in that lawsuit thread, I would be weary. No Thank You.
It's hard to beat the opportunities and cases there.

It's hard to divine how any given individual will fit in anywhere ahead of time. I think there's actually a lot of randomness to it. Plenty of unhappy residents nationwide.

I'd celebrate matching to Duke, lawsuit or no lawsuit.
