Hi,

I have orgo I/II and bio II left for prereqs.

Is it worth cramming orgo I and bio II into the summer term (8 wks) in order to take the PCAT in Sept? It would be a nightmare semester, but worth it if I would have a better chance of getting an interview during the preferred application period (deadline in Nov).

Previous posts mention Bio II and orgo II as not being critical to PCAT, so I don't know if I should just take orgo I in the summer, and bio II/orgo II in the fall. I could still take the PCAT in Sept, but don't want to underestimate the value of taking bio II/orgo II before taking PCAT.

Any advice is appreciated. TIA

I don't think Bio II is critical at all for the PCAT if you've taken microbiology and A&P I and II. I've never taken Bio II and I managed to score in the mid 90s on the biology section without studying.

Orgo I is highly recommended, however. Don't think you won't need it -- it's definitely necessary for the PCAT. I think Orgo II might not even be bad to have under your belt (I didn't, and wish I had).

What topics are covered in your school's Bio II course? Have you taken Microbio or Anatomy/Physiology yet?

As for Orgo on the PCAT, I found that nomenclature, substitution and elimination reactions, and functional groups were all I needed. Then again, this was review after taking both Orgo I & II two years prior so my situation may not be the same as yours, let alone my PCAT.

Orgo I really sets the foundation for everything you will learn thereafter, let alone what you need for the PCAT. Can you handle that in only 8 weeks when the pool is calling you?
