Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering which school that doesn't require the PCAT is the best...in terms of quality of education, value, reputation, etc. ?

Also, are the schools that don't require the PCAT viewed as being of lesser quality than some of the other schools?

Thanks!

Oh yeah, I also need to add that I'm a Canadian so I guess that will make a difference in what schools I should apply to.

My GPA is decent, not amazing at 3.6-3.7 depending on what scale you use.

UCSF is ranked number 1 in pretty much every poll and they do not require the pcat........I dont know about what you being canadian means...I would think it would help your application because you would offer diversity without any obvious language barriers...

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I mention I'm Canadian is because for med and dental schools, it makes a huge difference. Also, I like how you wrote that as a Canadian, I wouldn't have any OBVIOUS language barriers hahahahah I got a kick out of that..eh 😀

a 3.7 GPA is very good actually. definitely more than "decent"

I didn't take PCATs at all and applied to schools that dont require it. You can check on aacp.org to check all the schools that dont require it. All california schools UCSF, UCSD USC, Touro, Loma Linda, Western, UOP do not require PCATs. Also Purdue and Colorado don't require PCATs and they are ranked pretty high according to US News. You would have to check with each school to see their policy on International students because some schools give advantages to their own State's permanent residents (UCSF and UCSD for sure) and you would have to show them that you have enough money for all 3 or 4 years of school in your bank account...which is a lot ($80K+)! I dont think that not requiring PCATs diminishes the quality of your education...it does put more emphasis on your pre-pharm classes tho when you're applying. Good luck!!!

Hi there- I know you probably already know this, but Leslie Dan School of Pharmacy in Toronto is VERY well regarded, and it doesn't require the PCAT, right? How about UBC?

As for here in the States, I don't think there is any correlation btwn schools that are ranked and the PCAT. Some schools require it, some don't. It seems kind of random- geographically speaking, University of Washington requires it but none of the schools in California do.

If I were you, I would include as my options the pharmacy schools in Canada- (my husband is from Canada and he keeps SIGHING when he sees my tuition increase practically exponentially... it is quite difficult to accept the fact that fees at a public institution can be almost $20k/year!) However..... if you are interested in schools in the US, don't let your International Student status deter you from applying!!! Plenty of schools here in the US go by your essays, recommendations, and the interview (heavy on the essay and interview portion..) I applied to U of T and was curious that they only wanted my grades, no essays(!) It made the application process easier, but I was rejected 🙁 [I am not Canadian, and though I married a Canadian, i guess that didn't matter, ha ha!]
