So I decided to make this thread to help myself and whoever else is interested and pass th time between when you have applied to dental school and (hopefully) get your interview letter. I decided to break down the best schools or fisherman (in my opinion). You never know, maybe if you are an addict like me, this will influence your final decision of where to spend the next 4 years.

1. University of Minnesota- Without a doubt this is a outdoorsmen's utopia. Even though the school is located in a huge metropolitan area, numerous shore fishing opportunities abound which are perfect for the dental student with only a small amount of free time and no boat. There are a multitude of lakes and parks in the city to fish and also the Mississippi river. Pike, musky, walleye, bass, crappy, and catfish can all be found in various places throughout the area. The biggest appeal to me is that you can also icefish, which allows you to get outside and enjoy even the coldest Minnesota day.

2. University of New England- This school has a similar situation to UMN. Although there aren't many lakes in the city, some of the best in Maine are just a few minutes north. There are great rivers for flyfishing for brown trout, brook trout, and the occasional rainbow. An obvious feature of UNE is that it is located on the coast and this also provides a few great fishing opportunities. Sometimes stripers can be caught surf fishing from the beach and also the occasional bluefish. Bass are also present in just about every body of freshwater along with crappy, salmon, and pickerel if you want good icefishing action.

3. LECOM- Although all florida sportfishing is good with great largemouth bass to catch in just about every body of freshwater and any causeway providing the opportunity for good saltwater fishing, Lecom stands out as the best florida school for a fisherman. The west coast of florida has the best saltwater sport fishing in my opinion with something always in season and plenty of beaches to fish from. If saltwater is not your choice, bass fishing is always possible as well as gar and carp. None of these would require a boat either as long as you find the right spot.

4. VCU- This is a great school for the sole purpose of the James River. Some of the best catfishing in the US is found just a few minutes south of the school and is available from certain parks on the shore. If catfish aren't your thing, bass can be caught right down town. This includes stripers, large, and smallmouth. There are also a good amount of gar and carp in the river all within walking distance of the dental school.

5. University of Colorado- I don't know to much about this area but I do know its close to the rocky mountains and some amazing trout fishing. Colorado is an outdoorsmens dream in general; Hiking, camping, climbing, hunting. The fishing must be great.

Thats my list of the top 5. Please expand on if you like fishing or know something I don't about an area. 4 out of 5 on my list are from experience so if you have ever been out west, expand for me and I'll appreciate it. I'm sure the west has good fishing somewhere. I left out alot of schools in the north and south because I based this on accessibility to students (sorry great lakes and southern reservoirs, we don't own boats in dental school) so the focus of fishing is from shore.

NSU. It's close to the Florida keys, which is terrific fishing!

I tried fishing once, and realized that fishes' jaws are stronger than my arms.

LOL I thought this thread was about schools who tend to pick wildcards WRT "the numbers"...IE, applicants with low grades/scores are fishing by applying there.

If we both get into UNE or Lecom, we should be roommates lol
