I would personally stick with Charleston and take anatomy and molecular biology. I think they will benefit you just as much in your application as long as you are sure you can get high marks in them. Also, molecular biology will have quite a lot of biochemistry in it if you are interested in that subject material.

Cullen, is that really you? I'll be damned if this is the C. Harper that I remember from the stands of DV.

My advice would be to look at the admission requirements for the schools that you are applying to. Different schools require different course prerequisites. Also keep in mind that some schools do not accept CC credits. If that doesn't help you make your decision, I would just stay at CofC. I don't think that Micro or Biochem are more important or useful than Anatomy or molecular.

Best of luck with your endeavors!

Hey all. New member to the student doctor network but i've found this site to be incredibly helpful. I wanted to pose a question about science elective classes. I am a non-traditional student applying to dental schools this May. I graduated from a 4-yr institution with a degree in business management and also received my MBA last August. This May I will finish up all my science electives (Physics, Bio, Org Chem, Chem) and plan on taking two more science elective classes this summer. I would like to take MicroBiology and BioChem but they are not offered at College of Charleston this summer. So it looks like I will either take those two classes at a technical school or take Human Anatomy and Molecular Biology at College of Charleston. What do you all think would be the better approach to strengthening my application? Also, will be taking DAT in May. Thanks for your help.
Keep in mind that science course at a technical school level are not designed for science majors; their value could well be considered to be, at best, at high school level.

Biochemistry is starting to be a required prerequisite at a few schools, isn't it? Either way, you can also check the actual dental school curricula that some schools have posted, and I believe most actually list Biochem and Micro as classes that you take in the first two years.

Biochem, microbiology, molecular and cellular biology, any anatomy or physiology. I attended a CC for years before my 4 year degree. I think those who say CC classes are at a high school level have never attended a CC, because that is highly untrue. A 4 year may be more involved or it may not be, I have taken both versions of micro and the CC one was harder. Recommended courses can be taken anywhere. Required courses need to be 4 year, which it seems you already know. Let me ask this-would you know more if you didn't take the CC course and skipped it altogether? No. I would take it, every class helps.

Biochem was required for the majority of my schools that I applied to
