If a rising D2 was targeting taking the cbse before their D3 fall but had some extra time this summer, would any section be better than others to study ahead of time?

Nope. Just start studying. People get into a trap of trying to analyze how they’re going to study more than actually studying. Don’t fall in that trap. Just start studying. Youll know you’re doing it right if you feel like you’re not learning anything and feel overwhelmed. Just keep going and don’t stop. You’ll get there.
