86 days. Been thinking about which videos are the best.

First the office space trailer

Then there's this one

I found a few more but they weren't as good. Feel free to share.

I hate you.
847-1 = 846. Yay, one more day down... -85 leave, give or take=762. -104 weekend days - 18 federal holidays - 20 pTDY = 619. It's almost like I am counting or something...

I have 594 days left on just on the countdown to the end of residency.

481 until separation. Somewhere around 407 until my last day of "work" (minus transition leave and out-processing), and I've got enough leave to take a full week off every month until then. Take away holidays, pTDY, and weekends, I've probably only got 10 or 15 minutes of work left to do.

I've been counting since I was in 4 digits. I remember Facebook messaging some classmates from residency when we hit 1000.

Don't hate. Appreciate.

Here's another one. I echo the relief on the Green Guy's face at about 0:40

Old movie trailers are weird. They're so different than current ones. That one just gives away the whole movie plot in the trailer.

I wonder if this wasn't made later to advertise the video or something

This is awesome stuff! I am also done June 1, 2014. I have become so jaded it isn't even funny. I cannot stand all the so-called "leaders" in this organization. Bunch of monkeys on a flagpole only looking out for their own careers and trying the please the a..holes directly above them. O-6s making 100k more than me who generate $400-500k less revenue per yr and who I wouldn't let take a lipoma off my arm in fear of their clinical incompetence. That s..t only flies in the federal government. They stay in b/c they have no chance of getting a job outside the MHS. Their incompetence would be laughable if I wasn't still part of this of disaster that is known as the DoD. The nonsense is about to end, thank god.

That's the thing. I just don't believe in what we're doing. The leadership is a group of people who's goal is to look good for 3 years so they can get a better set of 3 year orders. At the top (almost) everybody is just changing things for the sake of it, because if you don't change stuff you don't get promoted. Like I said. I just stopped believing in the mission.

I'm proud that I have served. I will have fulfilled my oath (just like the green guy in the video above). I've achieved something and made personal sacrifices for our country. But I'm just not a believer any more.

84 days

I love this sound byte.

CAVEAT: Please do not think that I am in any way trying to minimize Dr. King's struggles and achievements.

Nice one. Hopefully they won't be dis-emboweling me on my last day......hopefully

Reminds me of that Meatloaf song:

So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
So I can end my time with you

I don't have any clever clips, but I'm definitely saving this thread to use next summer... The light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger!

I do have to say, all of my anxiety with getting out is summed up well with this clip. Hopefully, I'll be Red and not Brooks (such an awesome movie).

Moonlighting was like work-release for me. Reintroduction to society. I smile now at my old visceral reaction to something as simple as doctor parking and I felt like the chick from Girls when I discovered the goodies in the doctor's lounge. When you leave, walk off the base like you just got parole and get picked up and driven home in an El Camino. Set up an out-of-office reply directing anyone with a question to walk in to talk with the laziest O5+ nurse in the command (ie thanks for the inquiry, CDR Specialchair is our champion for that issue and is in the office today). At the t-60 mark, start growing your hair. Elvis should be jealous.

Or...what I really should have done...keep your last day a secret and pack up and leave in the dead of night (think Baltimore Colts).

Too late. I have been very public with my countdown.....I actually have "Walking on Sunshine" playing in my head as I walk around thinking of my exit.

But don't turf the CO's front lawn with your 4x4, supposedly that happened at Wilford Hall c. mid 1990's.

Today is my last day of my penultimate year of 'work' for the Army, because I'm not going to count transition leave and out-processing. I actually bought a year long countdown clock that I get to start at COB today.

803 days total in army, 438 when vacations, weekends, PCS leave and holidays are subtracted. There is also training holidays, but subtracting these is tricky.

Last day of clinic is one week from tomorrow. Final checkout is a week after that (hint, book your pack out before your terminal leave starts).

This may be an Army vs. Air Force thing. The Army only permits 10 days of house-hunting pTDY, also at the discretion of the command. However, I was told that they don't allow it when separating, only when PCSing or retiring.

In the Navy you only get house hunting TAD and/or job hunting TAD if you are retiring. If you're separating you don't get either one

I'm gonna delete my post.. it was wrong. But I don't want this to be a google-able point of reference for lazy commanders looking for a reason to say no 😉

I would encourage you guys to do the same. The leave system is BS... grr.

It's easily accessible in the leave instruction. That's where I googled it. I don't think an SDN thread will be the deciding factor

My separation application was approved this week! And I squeezed in getting PRK beforehand. Life is good, and my new world as a civilian anesthesiology resident begins in about 7 short months..!

Can't wait to grow a beard, travel on weekends off without using leave, and walk with my hands in my pockets.

How is separated life for those of you who just went through it?

It's been nice. 1) it turns out that I grow a pretty good beard (which is currently on my face) 2) it's so much better. The freedom is unreal. I literally found myself looking over my shoulder when I left the office early because my work was done.

156 days til separation but only 150 til I start Anes residency! Hopefully 115-ish days until my "final-out"!

Congrats! If you don't mind answering, how was the process of applying to civilian programs?

Was easy. In the AF you get ptdy for interviews. Expensive, but easy.
Nice! Were civilian PDs receptive to you and military experience?
