In your opinion, what are some the best specialties for non-traditional medical students to consider? I.e. someone who will be 35-40 when they finish residency, married, kids, and had a career before medicine. A career with good hours and minimal call/holiday work responsibilities.

How about emergency medicine? Three year residency and you're done. That's where I'm leaning anyway, considering I'll be 36 when I finish school.

Whatever specialty you love and have high enough board scores/clerkship grades to qualify for.

Agreed. It's silly to try to pick a specialty based on your nontrad status. Pick what you enjoy -- we are all very different people/personalities even if we all started on this career path a little later.
