I was wondering what study tools people have found to be the most effective. I am searching for a valuable way to spend my money as I do not have that much to allocate on study books. I would appreciate any help. Thank you!!

REA's Problem Solvers - Biology. Its a big pink book, worth much more than its actual price of $24.

If you have the time... put Campbell and EVERYTHING else away and stick with this book. It has EVERY question and answer related to Biology.

It even says on the cover of the book: "Includes every type of problem that may be assigned by your instructor OR given on a test."

It is truly an encyclopedia of Biology. If you havent heard people talk about it before, its because they want to keep the secret to themselves. There is one catch - its about 1000 pages (very small print). I think it would take you a few months to read and thoroughly understand. But I honestly believe, had I read this book... I would not only get a 30 on Biology, but I could have probably taught it at the college level.

I found out about it a little too late, but you guys shouldnt wait a minute longer to buy this book!

If you need review help for the sciences, get the Schaum's Oulines for Biology, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry.

You can then use Kaplan's blue book for some more specific DAT help and a few practice tests and Top Score Pro for some really accurate DAT practice tests. Also, if you find you are struggling on the PAT section the Barron's DAT book has some good resources to help on the PAT section.

If you bought all of these you would probably spend about $150 and it would cover all of your bases.

if you want to be economical but yet want stellar results then I suggest the following:
1. Find a friend or somebody you know who has taken the Kaplan course and ask them for all the materials. If this is not possible, ebay usually sells these materials for pretty cheap.
2. After reviewing through the materials from kaplan 3-4 times, buy topscore! ($50) because it helps you stimulate the testing environment and format.
3. Next, get achiever ($50 as well)-Although achiever is an overkill for almost everything but some of their questions has been known to appear on the actual test. Don't feel bad if you are getting in the teens after doing these tests because on the real thing you should be able to get 3-5 points higher.
4. Schaums biology ($17 or cheaper on ebay)- Review all areas you are weak on and those that are heavily emphasized on the DAT (search the forums these areas 🙂)
5. After doing all this you should feel confident! I never used Destroyer but managed to score >20's using what i have just listed but if you still have the cash and time, more review stuff would only help.

Conclusion = good materials to study + cheap + confidence + super DAT= Happy Predent

I would definitly agree with the Schaum's outlines as they are really cheap and give you everything you know. I think they are around $10 - $15.

I would also for sure get the Top Score CD (about $50) as it will give you the best simulation you can find.

I also personally took the Kaplan online class which I found very helpful, but is unfortunately expensive. You might try buying the class materials off of someone online like through ebay. Otherwise try the kaplan blue book as that should give you some more DAT specific advice. I think the blue book is about $35.

I didn't use Destroyer or Achiever but heard they are good as well, but I think the above probably gives you everything you need for the best price.

I am doing achiever + destroyer.
But with achiever..my gosh..I only get scores around teens (like you said)-but somewhat relieved that you said 3-5 points higher.
HOPE it really does😀

I used the Kaplan blue book for an overall review, if I wanted more info on a topic I would hit the college textbooks then to really get down and dirty with the material I used destroyer which was great..

Destroyer without a doubt is most helpful but i also used kaplans materials to back it up

Destroyer would be your best bet. Use kaplan review to lay the foundation, and then Destroyer will reinforce everything you need to know for the real thing. It has tons of questions and very detailed explanations which will prepare you to master the DAT on test day.
