to transfer to US school?

i'm started SGU (in carib) in aug, i'm 1st year, and would love to transfer to a us allo. i've heard most people apply after finishing basic here, and start clinicals and finish with new school...

do i go through amcas? the schools directly? how does the app process work? when should i start?

thanks! 👍

The medical school that I attended and the two that I serve on admissions committee do not accept transfer students from non-LCME schools. Your first task would be to find a school that accepts non-LCME transfers and then find out if they have space for you. In general, transfer from Carib into U.S. allo or osteo doesn't happen very often but do some research and find out where you have a shot.

It's exceptionally difficult. Possible (Seen it happen) but difficult.

people u guys are missing the point... i know its difficult... i was asking about the application timeline/process... not the difficulty involved.

Trying to transfer to US allo from the carribbean is so difficult that there isn't even a process, you have to create the process. Go to every individual school that you would want to transfer to's website to see if they accept transfer students(some schools wont accept transfers of any kind, regardless of another school, others will accept them but depending on if they have dropouts or only for personal reasons such as a sick family member that is in that city causing you to have to move, the point is you will have to check with every school you are trying to transfer to individually). The ones that will allow transfers you must call up personally and initiate proceedings to figure out how it is done and if you are eligible. You must then continue that contact to apply to transfer if they will consider you. There's no official process at all in it.
