Hey guys,

Ive been invited for a few interviews, accepted at one school, and rejected at a few others. But i am still waiting on a relatively large number of schools to give me any sort of indication of whats going on. And judging from the school specific threads a good number of these schools may have hit the 50% interview invite mark (this statistic is based on nothing ). I was thinking about sending an update letter / letter of interest to the schools which have not responded to me, hoping that it will give my file another look through (ive been complete a longggg time ago). Is there a particularly good time to do it? I was thinking early november? Any opinions on the matter would be very appreciated!

I like November. You should first worry about who you'll be for Halloween.

Before you send an LOI, quickly read through any FAQ or applicant info pages on the school's website. There are a few schools that explicitly say when/if they want to receive letters, and if you send them one anyway, it might make things worse! Above all, follow directions!

If you have a hole in your application and have acted to fill it, that would be a good time to send in a letter that might have an impact on the decision-making process. For example, if your GPA is on the low side, then wait until you can report fall grades. If a school is research-oriented, report on a paper accepted for publication or a grant you wrote for being awarded. If you just started a public-service organization last spring, report on the progress your leadership has inspired.
