What are the best times to take a vacation during residency? I get 3 weeks total, taken 1 week each period. And pros/cons to taking a vacation at certain times? What are your experiences?

I generally try to evenly space mine - so one around mid October/November, around Feb and then May.

We get 4 days off around Christmas/New Years so I try not to take my vacation that month.

If you have a choice, pick rotations you enjoy less than others to take some time off. Some programs may require you to take them during electives or other off service rotations.
