I'll be applying in about a year from now, but I currently have 2 professors I think I would wanna ask for a letter of rec. is it best to ask them next year when time comes to apply or now?

Ask now if you feel like they won't remember you or if you want to not risk them taking too long.

If you are going to ask for them to do it now, set up a letter management account like Interfolio, so they can submit them now. I asked one of my professors almost a year early, but then reminded her that fall. My school has a committee letter so all my letters were in before March.

There are two things you can do.
1. Tell them that you are applying in one year and would like a letter. (get confirmation that they would be willing to write it next year) Until next year, keep in contact with them and update them on your activities. Then, when you're ready to apply, ask them to write it.
2. You can use interfolio and they can write the letter now, have it stored, then when you're applying, see if they can re-submit the letter (they should have it saved), but with an updated date, because you want your letters to be dated the year you apply.
