What is the best time (or better time) to send out thank you letters if there is such a thing? I am doing cross country interviews, I wonder how soon I should get my thank you letters out.

Discussed elsewhere. Do it when you can. If there by ranking time it will be ok.

A thank you letter is a courtesy to your interviewer. It should be sent out within days of the actual interview.
